Williams was assigned to the International space platform as a member of Expedition 14 and Expedition 15. In 2012, she served as a aircrewman on Expedition 32 then commander of Expedition 33.
Early life and education:
Youngest of three children, she was graduated in Needham highschool in Needham, Massachusetts, in 1983. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from the us academy in 1987, and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management from Florida Institute of Technology in 1995.
Williams was commissioned an ensign within the us Navy in May 1987. After a six-month temporary assignment at the Naval Coastal direction , she was designated a Basic Diving Officer.
In December 1995, she went back to the Naval pilot School as a teacher within the rotor blade Department and because the school’s Safety Officer. There she flew the UH-60, OH-6, and therefore the OH-58. She was then assigned to USS Saipan because the Aircraft Handler and therefore the Assistant Air Boss.

On April 16, 2007, she ran the primary marathon by a person in space. Williams was listed as an entrant for the 2007 Boston Marathon, and completed the space in four hours and 24 minutes. In 2008, Williams participated within the Boston Marathon again.
Expeditions 32 and 33 :
Williams was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on July 15, 2012, as a part of Expedition 32/33. Williams served because the commander of the ISS during her stay onboard ISS Expedition 33, succeeding Gennady Padalka. She became the commander of the International space platform on Citizenship Day , 2012, being only the second woman to realize the feat. She returned to Earth with fellow astronauts Yuri Malenchenko and Akihiko Hoshide on November 19, 2012, touching down within the town of Arkalyk, Kazakhstan.
Commercial Crew program :
In July 2015, NASA announced Williams together of the primary astronauts for U.S. Commercial spaceflights. Subsequently, she has started working with Boeing and SpaceX to coach in their commercial crew vehicles, along side other chosen astronauts. In August 2018 she was assigned to the primary mission flight, CTS-1, to the International space platform of the Boeing CST-100 Starliner.
Williams is married to Michael J. Williams, a federal policeman in Oregon. the 2 are married for quite 20 years, and both flew helicopters within the youth of their carvers.She was awarded the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Vishwa Pratibha Award by the planet Gujarati Society, the primary person of Indian descent who wasn’t an Indian citizen to be presented the award.
